How separated aluminium sections are coordinated as one framed system

A thermally broken aluminium frame uses a low-conductivity connection between inner and outer aluminium sections. The arrangement can reduce direct heat flow through the frame, but the final behaviour depends on the complete system: profile geometry, connector, crimping or assembly method, glass, spacer, gaskets, hardware, drainage, fabrication, and installation interfaces.
Treat it as a system
The thermal barrier cannot be selected in isolation. Its position affects glass pockets, drainage chambers, reinforcement, hardware fixing, and the continuity of internal and external seals. Designers should also consider where condensation may occur and how adjacent wall, sill, head, and jamb details continue the intended control layers.
Control assembly
During production, compatible profile halves and barrier components must be identified, aligned, and joined using the approved method. Dimensions, roll or crimp condition, straightness, and surface finish should be checked without damaging the barrier. Cutting and machining instructions need to protect drainage paths and avoid unintended metal bridges between the separated sections.
Verify project requirements
Terms such as “thermal break” do not provide a project performance value by themselves. Any thermal, structural, air, water, acoustic, fire, or durability requirement must be supported by suitable system documentation and project-specific engineering. Fabrication and site installation should follow the approved details, including perimeter insulation and sealants, because an otherwise capable frame can be undermined by an incomplete interface.
