Aluminium can support more circular construction, but the material does not make a project circular by itself. Outcomes depend on how products are sourced, designed, fabricated, maintained, adapted, dismantled, separated, and recovered across their service life.

Begin with long and useful service

Keeping a capable component in use can avoid premature replacement. Designers can support this by selecting appropriate exposure, finish, glass, hardware, drainage, fixings, and interfaces, then providing access for cleaning, adjustment, repair, and replaceable parts. A durable frame attached to an inaccessible or short-lived interface still creates future waste.

Document what was built

Accurate drawings, material information, finish references, maintenance instructions, spare-part records, and disassembly notes help future teams understand the assembly. Clear identification can make repair and selective replacement more practical than removing an entire system.

Plan separation and recovery

Mechanical connections may support disassembly where they are accessible and appropriate. Sealants, gaskets, glass, steel reinforcement, hardware, coatings, and contaminants affect separation routes. Fabrication offcuts and site waste should be kept clean and directed into suitable recovery channels rather than mixed indiscriminately.
